Sugarloaf Mountain
Sugarloaf Mountain

Sugarloaf Mountain Golf & Town Club is a scenic 18-hole golf course located in Minneola, 40 minutes west of Orlando on surprisingly hilly terrain for Florida. Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw followed the natural features of the land to design the mountain masterpiece, which opened in 2008.

The golf course features dramatic elevation changes up to 250 feet, with heavily sloped fairways and the occasional blind tee shot. Sugarloaf Mountain Golf & Town Club has a variety of bunkers, and the greens are firm and fast. The lush oak forests and views of Lake Apopka add to the character of the private golf course.

Sugarloaf Mountain Golf & Town Club was named one of the Best New Private Courses in 2008 by GOLF Magazine

Played the course in May 2012 and in all my years of playing golf around the world I've never seen a course in such terrible condition. They shouldn't even be charging anyone to play they should pay you to come . So sad that Crenshaw has his name attached to this place . One star would be too many.

May 21, 2012. Not what it was in the past. Obvious money issues. Front nine is playable, the back is like a nice cow pasture. Greens are OK. To be blunt, not worth the travel or the cost. If Hampton didn't own it and have revenue from it's many other courses, it would fold overnight.

I played the course for the first time in early summer 2010 and really liked the layout with lots of elevation changes and some really nice holes except #11? The course was still in rough condition which I expected for a new course. Fee rates are still somewhat high for the course condition! A very good course with lots of potential once it grows in and bunkers maintained!

The course is hardly getting any play and is in decent shape. The greens are typical of summer greens in FL - A bit long and grainy, but well conditioned. The rest of the course is being maintained by a skeleton crew and the fairways had not been mowed Sunday when we played. The service in the pro shop was slow and the guy wouldn't give us a cooler without buying more than one drink each. This was bad considering it was 95 degrees out, but it was made worst by the fact that there wasn't even a beverage cart on the course.

Bad service and dangerous policies leave no question as to why this facility is struggling to stay open.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to play at Sugarloaf Mountain for the first time with some friends. We had an absolute blast! The course was in really good condition and we kept having to remind ourselves that we we’re playing a course in Florida. The views are amazing. Their greens were some of the best I’ve played in central Florida lately. Tough but awesome design! This course might be a drive but it is well worth it! We’ll be back soon.
